About Us
The Clarinda Fire Department was established in 1875 to provide fire protection for Clarinda.
Prior to 1917 the fire department used horse drawn fire engines, but in 1919 the department began using its first motorized fire truck. In 1973 the role of the Clarinda Fire Department was expanded to include rural fire protection as Nodaway and Harlan townships formed a Rural Fire Board.
Today, the Rural Fire Association includes
- Nodaway
- Harlan, Nebraska
- Douglas, East River, Lincoln, and Tarkio Townships
- Shambaugh and Yorktown Communities
For many years the Clarinda Fire Station was located south of the current Clarinda City Hall on South 15th Street, but in 1999 a new fire station was constructed on East Washington Street. Currently, the Clarinda Volunteer Fire Department consists of 25 members and responds to approximately 160 calls per year.

This trailer is used primarily to transport all of the necessary gear and equipment that our Dive Team uses to make a water rescue.
Make A Donation
The Clarinda Fire Department holds its annual fund raiser in the fall every year, whereby a fund drive letter is sent out to all area residents. It is through your generous donations taht we are able to operate and purchase some of the needed equipment for our Fire Department.
As expenses increase, and budget monies decrease, we continue to rely more and more on those of you that are greatful supporters of our department. Without your support, we would not be able to provide the prompt and well trained personal needed for your emergencies.
